The total prequel to the Blockbuster Kingdom Hearts series is finally here. This explains a lot about the story that is covered in Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2.
The game follows the story of 3 prospective Keyblade masters, Terra, Van and Aqua. Now, most people recognized Ven who is the balanced one, as an almost identical twin to Roxas from Kingdom Hearts 2, Terra who is the powerhouse, whom looks suspiciously like Xehanort, and Aqua is the female, whom most people likened to Kairi whom is a mainstay through then whole story.
The story starts as with any game, a tutorial on how to control your character, and a choice to make, only this time, its between which section of the story that you want to follow first. Technically the story goes in the order of Ven, Terra, and then Aqua, but playing them out of order is fine too, you still get the story, but its slightly harder to follow. Ven is the best place to start because his story is easier to follow and is easier to use then the other 2 outright.
The addition of a new minigame, which resembles a Square version of Monopoly, is a nice and easy way to master your attacks and magic, and earn some slightly rarer attacks and magic without having to meld commands. It affords you a chance to make you more powerful by bankrupting your opponents out of points.
The game is solid, the controls are easy, just like the other games, and it is a great example of the parameters of the PSP, and how far they can get pushed.
The downside of this game is that it gets a little repetitive and tiring to perform almost all of the same missions over and over again, and the battle mechanics can get sloppy when you get to the final bosses, and the fact that you take massive damage, and that you are almost never ahead of the level curve, you run the chance of dying and not making it past that point unless you level your attacks and your character for an hour, and that your enemy somehow gets out of reach is just annoying.
Over-all the game is good, and the pacing is pretty good. The game isn’t perfect, but what game is?
Over-all this game scores a 4/5
